A Guided Tour of Personal Computing
Unlike the terse and confusing monitor that greeted users
when they turned on the computer, the Exidy Sorcerer’s manuals
tended be informative and well written. The Guided Tour of
Personal Computing is particularly good in this regard, featuring
70 pages of instructions on how to set up and use the
Sorcerer. Guiding users on this journey is the Wizard of
Exidy, a friendly looking cartoon wizard who offers helpful advice
throughout the manual. The overall friendliness of the
manual is no mere coincidence, it was one of the Paul Terrell’s
(who came up with the original concept for the Sorcerer) main
objectives. Paul wanted the Sorcerer to be user-friendly
beyond anything that was currently on the market and for that to
happen it needed a friendly user manual. This is one of two
manuals that were packaged with the system.
