Sorcerer Software
Most people will tell you that software is what makes or
breaks any computer system. It doesn't matter how
impressive a systems features are, if it doesn't have any
software to take advantage of them. Although it never
achieved the same level of success as its peers, the Sorcerer
had several high quality software packages available.
These software packages ranged from the standard productivity
and business software to what everyone really cared about:
Games. Due to its high resolution reprogrammable
graphics, the Sorcerer could faithfully reproduce many of the
leading arcade games of the time (if only in
monochrome). Software for the Sorcerer came in three formats: ROM
Pac, Cassette, and Disk. Although few ROM Pacs
(cartridges) were released, they had the advantage of loading
instantly into any Sorcerer without the need for extra
equipment. However the added cost of the hardware and
limited memory made them unpopular for larger
applications. Most software for the Sorcerer was
provided on cassette tapes with versions for different memory
configurations on either side of the cassette. Serious
business software that required large amounts of storage space
and frequent saving and loading was supplied on disk, but only
could be used by owners of the S-100 Expansion Unit. Although many of these software packages were listed as being available on Exidy's official sales sheet, it is unknown how many of them were actually released. While much of the Sorcerer's game library seems to have been archived, its business software seems to be relatively unknown.
