The VideoBrain joystick is similar to the Atari 2600 joystick, with the exception that it is not self-centering. However unlike other non-centering joysticks (such as the one that came with the 5200), the actual stick tilts as it moves from center since it is on a ball joint. This makes using the VideoBrain joystick somewhat cumbersome, as the stick tends to get in the way during periods of fast action and doesn't move as fluid as it should (not that there is much fast action in any VideoBrain game).
On the plus side, the joystick is very comfortable to hold and fits nicely into the players hand. The fire button is located on the side of the unit, and has a good solid response when pressed (no mushiness whatsoever). The VideoBrain actually supported up to four joysticks, but few games supported more than two players. Extra joysticks were packaged in white boxes as seen below.
